Job Summary:

Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metals components, or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products or pipe. Read a Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) to produce a weld according to the requirements of the procedure. Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. Ignite torches or start power suppliers, and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits. Fabricate and construct piping segments and attach fittings that require field fit-up, erection and assembly. Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding and submerged arc welding. Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material. Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces to ensure conformance with specifications. Recognize, set-up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

External hires will be placed in the Welder X classification until they have completed the DCP Midstream safety orientation, assigned Department of Transportation (DOT) Operator Qualifications (OQ), and process fundamental courses. External hires have 90 days from their first day of employment to complete and pass all courses.

Employees in the Welder classification must re-qualify for their respective certifications every six months. Test administration shall be conducted according to DCP Midstream policy. If the employee fails after 3 attempts, they will be placed in the Welder X classification and can attempt to re-certify in 45 days. Learning materials and training will be made available to the employee.

Working Conditions:

Works indoors & outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment. Required to stand, use repetitive motions, bend, and twist. Works in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment. Wears safety equipment as required. Face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams is required, as well as contact with others via direct or indirect communication. Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Includes exposure to contaminants. Includes exposure to sounds and nose levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Requires making decisions that affect other people, the financial resources and/or the image and reputation of the organization. Requires making decisions that impact the results of co-workers, clients or the company. Opportunity to make decisions without supervision. Requires exposure to hazardous equipment. Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts bites or stings. Freedom to determine tasks, priorities and goals. Requires repeating the same physical and mental activities. Includes responsibility for the health and safety of others. Candidates may be subject DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. Candidates may be required to possess a current DOT Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Works overtime as needed. Employees in this classification shall be qualified and current in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX.


High school diploma or GED
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular, full-time basis
Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
Must have or be willing to obtain a Commercial Drivers License.
Must be able to follow written or spoken work instructions in English
Must be willing to work overtime as needed
Minimum of 3 years previous experience in at least two of the following welding processes:
SMAW (stick)
GTAW (tig)
GMAW (mig)
FCAW (flux core)
1 year previous experience Oxy-Acetylene torch use
3 years previous direct welding experience in structural steel, x-ray, pipe welding and blueprint reading/piping drawings
Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Desired Qualifications:

2+ years previous experience Oxy-Acetylene torch use
4+ years previous direct welding experience in structural steel, x-ray, pipe welding and blueprint reading/piping drawings
Able to properly manage material resources
Able to exercise sound judgment and decision making
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
