The Health & Safety Manager will analyze and oversee all occupational safety programs dedicated to minimize injury and illness frequency; investigate and inspect safety compliance issues by identifying issues and providing hazard analysis and assessments; determine where process changes can be made that might impact cost, communication or training needs. Develop and manage reports for company management, keeps a record of all OSHA-based training activities that involve personnel; recommend and implement program changes where necessary. Coordinate, schedule training and testing, and complete all documentation relevant to the company’s Medical Surveillance programs including DOT/Transportation, hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs. Includes working with third party on-site drug and alcohol testing and hearing testing vendors. Provide training for mandatory DOT drug and alcohol programs for supervisors. Assist in managing the fleet safety program (142 commercial drivers); DOT drug & alcohol testing programs, accident investigation and incident review, powered industrial trucks, driver training, etc.

Responsible for all OSHA mandated documentation, training records etc. for all safety programs i.e. safety shoe program, prescription eye glass program, hearing conservation program, hot works permit; work with managers on developing practical and feasible solutions to comply with Federal and State (OSHA, DOT, EPA, NY DEP) health
& safety regulations. Maintain OSHA log, emergency evacuation planning program and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database. Working with our third party administrator for workers comp claims and the filing of claims.

Coordinate Company Ergonomics program: assist with conducting ergonomic evaluations and job assessments as well as providing education programs for employees. Work with department management and make recommendations regarding appropriate Ergonomic practices to follow, specify ergo equipment and furniture for current employees, and those who are returning from leave or injury. Provide ergonomic assessments and
workstation evaluations as requested by employees and/or managers. Coordinate and conduct Emergency Response Education programs including CPR, AED, First Aid and Bloodborne pathogens. Maintain AED, First Aid and Trauma Kit supplies and inspection documentation; regular communication of company injury and incident metrics; assist with Emergency evacuation planning and disaster preparedness. Provide recommendations and guidance to Newsday Managers and Department Management to prevent accident, injury, and/or illness exacerbation or recurrence. Oversee and monitors temporary handicap parking use and guidelines. Participate in Company Health & Safety Committees: accident investigations, and ergonomics. Conduct Health and
Safety audits and follow up. H&S audits include regular assessments of Newsday work areas and follow-up with Department Management to improve or correct noted safety items, observed unsafe working conditions and/or employee operations, and to follow-up on safety issues as directed by the Director of Engineering Services. Plans and promotes all safety programs.
