Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
ASE is a nationally recognized certification program for techs. NACSB will be a big supporter of the ASE program. We believe it is essential that technicians stay current in our respective field and ASE certification is one way to do that. The company firmly believes that through the ASE certification program, we will ultimately have better trained technicians. This is a win-win situation for both the company and the technician. The ASE program certifies technicians in three different areas:
• School Bus
• Heavy Duty Truck
• Automotive
Position Descriptions:
Technician in Charge (TIC)
Reports to the Contract Manager

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Five years automotive or truck mechanical repair experience. Prefer one-year supervisory experience or six months maintenance experience in our company. Prefer certification by the ASE testing program as a Master Tech.

Required Skills: Valid state license to operate company vehicles and possession of recommended minimum tools for a Master Technician.

Duties: Supervise the site, vehicles, equipment and facilities maintenance program with emphasis on safety, cost control, and responsiveness. Maintain the highest level of ethical behavior with our customers, employees and communities we serve.
Responsible for the smooth operation of an effective repair and preventative maintenance program that assures efficient operation and customer satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates vehicle service schedules with CM's to make sure PM's and other maintenance assignments are provided on schedule.
Schedule required PM inspections to be performed by members of the maintenance staff.
Oversee the daily completion of PM's, breakdown and safety related repairs.
Schedule all driver-requested repairs in the most time-efficient/cost effective manor so repairs are completed on the same day as requested. Be sure that any vehicle reported to have a safety-related problem is removed from service until inspected and repaired.
Verify, by personal inspection on a random basis, that all PM's and repairs have been completed consistent with company standards in a professional manner and that all vehicles are both safe and operational. Verify that all brake; major engine, steering and suspension repairs are performed correctly and in a quality manner before the vehicles are released for service.
Schedule, plan and supervise all shop functions to achieve maximum productivity.
Review all repair orders for time and parts used.
Monitor and schedule the out-of-service vehicles. Make sure that operations are provided with enough vehicles to maintain company standards of customer service.
Interview applicants for job openings with the contract manager and discuss applicant qualifications.
Control and monitor inventory of all parts purchased and all supplies ordered using proper security policies and procedures to protect the Company from theft of parts or supplies.
Approve any scheduled overtime hours as required to complete the required tasks.
Supervise compliance with company policies and processes. Discuss any breech of policy and procedure noted with the CM and RMM.
Determine that all maintenance personnel are adequately trained in the tasks assigned to them.
Make sure that all state regulations regarding equipment and equipment maintenance are met.
Enforcing proper safety and housekeeping practices, posting applicable warning signs and reviewing Safety Manual as needed.
Review and verify accuracy of required records. Document and maintain all personnel and vehicular records as required by State and Federal laws and regulations. Submit required reports and paperwork to corporate office in a timely manner.
Evaluate the performance of all maintenance department personnel on a regular basis according to company policy. Review findings with the CM, RMM and employee.
Administer appropriate employee discipline as necessary.
Immediately bring instances of vehicle abuse, major mechanical problems, missed P.M. schedules, high out-of-service levels and poor employee performance to the attention of the CM & RMM.
Regularly schedule safety meetings for the maintenance personnel.
Assist Contract Manager in preparation of the annual operating budget and analysis of the variances.
Examine all used parts to confirm necessity of replacement and determine cause of problem or failure.
Coordinate the safety and cleanliness of the shop.
Make sure that formal in-house and outside training is regularly provided to all maintenance personnel.
Make sure that all training activity is documented in the personnel files.
Encourage that all techs have ASE and NACSB certification in areas where they work in an unsupervised capacity.
Review and examine maintenance department performance in monthly group meetings with department personnel. Set goals and tracks performance on a regular basis.
Make sure that all maintenance employees have been trained in the proper handling of hazardous materials and that all employees are aware of proper procedures to follow in the event of a hazardous material spill or problem. Make sure that all maintenance employees have read and understand Material Safety Data sheets for all hazardous materials used in their work.
Supervise all Maintenance Department personnel. Within the limits of that authority, prescribe and administer established disciplinary action against any employee whom repeatedly or blatantly fails perform satisfactorily. Confer with CM, RMM and HR on termination of any maintenance department employee.
Reports to the Contract Manager.
Cooperate with the site staff, staff members of all other site's and corporate office staff.
